Leslie Christensen Massage Therapy & Advanced Bodywork
If you're looking for an advanced level of massage therapy in Austin, Texas, please come for a session and experience the benefits of pain relief or the best of relaxation massage. I have over 30 years experience and have trained in a variety of massage therapy modalities. People come to relieve anxiety, help with accident recovery, or for pain in the low back or neck or anywhere in the body.

Others come just for the pure joy of total mental, emotional, and physical release and relaxation. When coming for pain and/or alignment issues I will use techniques from all of the modalities I have studied, according to what I have assessed as the problem. You can also just email me directly. I will call or email you back to confirm the details of your appointment, and answer any questions you might have.

Myofascial Release is a form of therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalence the entire body.
It does this by using specific techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones.
Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body.
Strain/Counterstrain technique was developed by Lawrence Jones, a doctor of osteopathy, in the late 60s.
It is a passive positional release technique that can help deliver chronic pain relief, realign the spine and help restore normal range of motion.
Leslie is a miracle worker.
When I was 45, I thought my sports playing days were over, with wear and tear along with various ortho injuries.
I sought out her help, and was incredulous at the restoration of my body.
Today, in my 60's, I still play full court basketball along with any other sport I choose.
Her techniques are diagnostic and effective, with gentle, intelligent methods unlike many practitioners of therapy.
Leslie is definitely my life extender, and I have recommended her to many of my friends, including orthopedic surgeons and other doctors.
In the late 90's, I was fortunate to be certified in Neuromuscular Therapy by Judith Delany, who had started teaching the practice under Paul St John.
The two separated the work into two styles in 1989, with Judith's version called "NMT American Version."
It is a thorough program of recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes that utilizes specific massage techniques, flexibility, stretching and home care to eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain patterns.
Judith's work has grown with her collaboration with Dr. Leon Chaitow.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) was developed by Dr Fred Mitchell Sr., D.O. as an alternative to high-velocity manipulation.
MET is a form of therapy that uses muscle contractions and body positioning to normalize joint motion.
It is a way to increase the structural and functional integrity along the whole movement chain, helping to achieve a healthy increased range of motion by spontaneously strengthening previously inhibited muscles.
MET therapy results in a decrease in sympathetic overload and a lessening of localized pain and irritation.
Here's how it works: first, the therapist will find tender points.
These are not trigger points as described in Dr. Travell's work, but rather small zones of tense, tender edematous muscle and fascial tissue.
What Jones found was that, by carefully exaggerating the abnormal body posture the muscles had taken on to give the client the most comfort, the client would spontaneously relax the muscles, thereby allowing the bones to go back into position without the need for heavy adjusting.
Once the tender point is located, the therapist will find the position of comfort where at least 90 percent of the tenderness is gone.
