It entails using a variety of different strokes with light to medium pressure, aiming to improve circulation of blood and lymph and relax superficial muscles. Therapeutic massage focuses primarily on working the deeper layers of muscles and fascia using deep tissue techniques.

Sometimes this technique involves the therapist using firmer pressure in order to reach these key areas and get them to release.
