At My Somatic Bodywork, we offer a somatic holistic (whole person) approach to traditional massage, energy work, and Somatic Experiencing to our clients bringing body awareness which facilitates and fosters healing. Somatic (from the Greek) means 'of the body'- Greek root soma which means the living body in its wholeness relating to the body, distinct from the mind, soul, or spirit.

Mind and body have a reciprocal relationship - soma (body) affects psyche (mind) and vice versa. We see the bodymind from this perspective. Somatic bodywork honors the holistic nature of each individuals' personal experience. It honors the innate wisdom of the bodymind and uses body awareness as an essential tool during bodywork sessions.
Services
Swedish massage is probably the most widely known massage modality.
A Swedish Massage uses oil with a variety of long and gliding strokes on tired and sore muscles with the intention of providing an "all over" sense of relaxation.
Swedish massage therapy is also known for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility and easing tension.
As part of your Swedish massage session, communication with massage therapist is encouraged so that your massage is customized to your specific needs.
Somatic Experiencing(R) is a body-awareness approach to trauma, as developed by Dr. Peter Levine.
Somatic Experiencing is "based upon the realization that the body (human beings) has an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma" and "restore self-regulation, and returns a sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness to traumatized individuals who have had these precious gifts taken away."
In an SE(R) session, the client is assisted in developing the ability to track and feel their body sensations and track their body emotions and movements while gaining an increased capacity to "stay present".
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle yet profound non-invasive, hands-on treatment for the whole body.
Performed on a massage table, the client is fully clothed and the touch is generally light and still.
The treatment is focus on supporting the health of the whole being, especially the nervous system.
Craniosacral therapy encourages the body's natural healing mechanisms to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, dissipate the negative effects of stress, and enhance health and resistance to disease.
