Ily Shofestall graduated from the Florida School of massage in 1984 and over the next 30 years it became her mission to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from unnecessary chronic pain. Ily's approach is quite eclectic, greatly influenced by Dr. Raymond Nimmo and his Receptor-Tonus Technique (a man way before his time), Dr. Janet Travell, a pioneer in Myofacial Release and Thomas Hanna, a Somatic Educator.
These three people shape the lens through which Ily looks at her clients. Ily likes to witness the unfolding process of asking the body and mind to find new patterns, instead of turning the body over to her, she delivers it back to you. Ily is a certified Neuromuscular Massage Therapist and is the first certified Thomas Hanna Somatic Educator in Maine.
She also started the first Pilates studio in Maine, SOMA.

From Alana VanDerwerker: Learning the principles and moments of Somatics has proven a boon as I continue to discover ways to recover from painful issues surrounding chronically tense muscles.
My gratitude to Ily Shofestall, who gave me the training, is boundless.
She really enjoys empowering her clients to re-educate their bodies.
I do my Somatics daily, even when I do not suffer pain and can bounce through the day.
When I need to find a way for relief, I can do it in a calm, sustained manner.
I highly recommend Ily (with Neuromuscular massage and movement training) as a practice for living well and have sent several friends to her who have found her helpful also.
