Jon Musgrave (he/him) is a LGBTQ-friendly bodyworker and yoga teacher based in Union Square, Manhattan.
He studied therapeutic massage at the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY, and has been practicing massage in NYC since 2012.
Ever eager to learn more about the body and how to work better with clients, Jon has studied extensively in topics including anatomy, psychology, various bodywork and energy work modalities, and specific pain and injury issues.
Jon is a former conductor and tuba player, and his interest in bodywork began during his Bachelor's degree in Tuba Performance at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he studied the Alexander Technique with James Brody to help deal with the chronic pain associated with two childhood falls, and which became worse during the demanding schedule of a college music major.

Being is pain is hard.
It's disruptive to your life and can make you feel like you will be stuck in this pain forever.
But I want to you know that it IS possible to move out of your pain; to be pain-free.
And not only that, but the work itself can be pain-free.
Bodywork can be deep, meaningful, and transformative without being painful; not only that, it can feel great!
Your pain is real, unique to you, and arises from your particular history and circumstances.
You may also feel trapped by your pain; it may be keeping you from living, working, and playing as you would like to.

My work integrates various massage and bodywork modalities to help each individual client unravel some of the tension inhabiting their bodies and to keep this tension from returning.
Below are descriptions of the modalities I regularly use during my work.
Connective Tissue Therapy, as the name implies, works with the connective tissues, especially the myofascia (the tissues surrounding and investing the muscle tissue), the tendons weaving muscle to bone, the ligaments bridging adjacent bones, and the other tissues involved in joint movement and stability.

I generally recommend 90 minutes sessions.
I have found that this amount of time best serves most of my clients.
Shorter, 60 minutes are available for those clients who have a financial or time conflict and need a shorter session that provides targeted work to a problem area.
Be aware that these sessions tend to be more focused and less "full body" than regular sessions.
I accept cash, check, and credit cards for payment.
All of my sessions integrate various modalities, including connective tissue therapy, neuromuscular therapy, energy work, body mapping, and breath work.
