Each session is customized to your current needs and preferred style of massage, including pregnancy and postnatal. Hi! I'm the owner and massage therapist at Birch Family Massage. I know that it takes a lot of trust to get a massage from someone you've never met before, so here's a little bit about me.

My style of therapeutic massage is a fluid blend of relaxation strokes, muscle release techniques, targeted stretching, and other specialty styles as needed, such as myofascial or scar tissue work.
Using unscented oil, I apply long, soothing strokes on the body to warm and relax the muscle tissue.
Your massage is customized to address what you need on that day, so the pressure is adjusted to your preferences, and can range from very light to more firm work.
When you arrive for your session, we'll talk about your health history and make a plan for what you want to work on during your massage.

Table positioning is one of the biggest differences: pregnancy massage (prenatal massage) is offered in a side-lying position to accommodate the client's growing belly.
Prenatal clients are supported by foam cushions, and many say they are more comfortable on my massage table than in their own beds at home.
These cushions are also available for my postnatal massages.
No, it's only gentle if you want it to be.
Pregnancy massage can be soothing and relaxing, or target specific areas of focused work, or even a little bit of both.

A pediatric massage is a session geared specifically for growing kids.
I offer 45-minute pediatric appointments; shorter sessions are a perfect amount of time for younger kids and those who are new to massage, although some teenage clients prefer a full 60 or 90 minutes.
In many cases a pediatric massage is also gentle in pressure, since kids are smaller in size, but I work with the pediatric client during the session to figure out the right level of pressure.
The most important thing about a pediatric massage is good communication.

I consider postnatal massage to be any session in which we're working on issues and conditions specific to your post-pregnancy body.
While "postnatal" and "postpartum" refer to the 6-8 week time period immediately following childbirth, every body is different and our postnatal-related massage sessions might extend beyond those first two months.
I'm happy to work with whatever rate of recovery you are experiencing.
I teach the postnatal massage elective class, "Bodywork for the New Mother, " at the Oregon School of Massage, so you know that I'm dedicated to postnatal/postpartum care!
